(for the glory of God!)

Technology: Master or Servant?
It is important as a Christian to look at things to see if they can bring glory to God or not. Everything must be evaluated on this principle: Is the thing I am planning on doing bringing glory to God or is it wasting my time and bringing glory to me or someone else? Like all things technology must be understood and used in the light of Bible revelation.
Technology is neither bad nor good. How technology is used is what determines if it should be used or not. I heard a preacher condemn all inventions saying they were all bad. I then watched him use his cell phone to call his wife! He later got on a plane and flew home! He didn't really practice what he preached.
Any new technology must be evaluated before it is entered into and used.
I am not against technology. I don't subscribe to the few who say, "If its new it's not any good and if its good it's not new!" There are many new things that are better than the old things! Take the new creature that a person becomes when he or she trusts Christ as Savior. The new man is much better than the old man!
II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
As a maintenance tech, to properly do my job, I must keep up with technology! It is important for me to master technology and not have technology master me! In my brief lifetime I have seen technology change. It comes and goes. I have seen the invention and development of the personal computer. I currently am responsible for two desktops, three laptops, and a virtual server. I have two Ipads, two cell phones, (two lines of texting), six email accounts, a YouTube channel, a website, and many passwords!
I have seen fax machines come and go. Same with cassette tapes and CDs. I don't remember the invention of 8 track tapes but I bought a few and used them. Thank God, VCRs are no more! I have seen the demise of copper phone lines. I asked a young person the other day if they had ever heard a dial tone? They had no idea what I was talking about! A lot of my fire alarm and door troubleshooting is done with a computer. The multimeter is still important to fix things, but many of the problems are software problems.
I must also keep up with the changes in fire alarms, cameras, and electronic door security. Some of the changes are good and some are just for the contractor to make more money.
The purpose of technology is to allow a person to serve God and man better, more efficiently, and make life easier to manage. When technology becomes a master instead of a servant technology is no longer beneficial. Technology is a lot like government. It tends to grow and feed on those it is supposed to serve! Technology, like government, must never become god! There is constantly a battle to keep technology in its place. Technology that is not managed is disastrous!
