Step 3: Commitment
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
This is the key verse to accomplish anything. Do 1 and 2 first. Prepare your heart, get your motive right. And then, commit it to God. God will give you the right thoughts about it.
If I had to pick a life’s verse, this would probably be it. Although there are many verses in the Bible that have influenced me and my thoughts, this one was the most profitable for my success as a maintenance tech!
For a time, I worked as a Fire Alarm installer. I would work on large construction projects installing the electronic fire alarms. Installation wasn’t new to me. I knew how to run wire. What was new was the brand of fire alarm. I was pretty much just set up to fail. I had complete liberty to show up when I wanted and do whatever I wanted to do. With this liberty came the responsibility of trying to do the job right. Even before God saved me, I wanted to be successful. I had learned that to be successful it was important to do things right. Well let me tell you, it was a big job and I had little training on how the system worked. I ran and many times re-ran the wires to get the right ones in. As I stumbled, and bumbled, I learned which wires to run and how the system worked, many times I was confused. I came across this verse and claimed it as a promise. I would quote it as a prayer in the morning or when I was frustrated. I wrote the reference on all of my ladders to remind me to “commit the work unto the Lord” and ask Him to give me the knowledge and wisdom on how to do it. I learned a lot about installing electronic fire alarms, but the main thing I learned is to get God involved. I knew I was doing what He wanted me to do and I needed His help in doing it.
I still quote this verse as a prayer as I work on this website. In the morning, I commit my hands, my head, and my heart, in that order to God and ask Him to use me for His glory.
Once you find out what it is God wants you to do, take this very important advice and commit it unto Him and ask His blessings on it.
Do you see how this is illuminating the will of God? God starts preparing and weighing your motive, and as you see his hand and the great work He has for you, you need to commit it unto Him. This is so important because the next few things are opposition and abominations that a person seeking to please God needs to be keenly aware of to be successful! You will only be successful if you are committed!
