Final Admonitions

of finding the will of God

the Proverbs 16 Way

Three final admonitions to consider as you seek to please Him who deserves it all!

The Hoary Head

Proverbs 16:31 “The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.”

I have found out over time, doing God’s will leads to success. Part of the success is that God gives you wisdom and understanding.

Often you get gray hair because of the things you successfully pass through. Sometimes you will only understand after you go through some great trial of affliction, and you look back on it that you see what God was doing.

Notice what God promised Moses when he giving excuses for why he couldn’t do what God said he could do. Before he chose to do God’s will God gives him proof in the future:

Exodus 3:11, 12 “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.”

Stress and problems are a natural part of serving God. You can’t live life without facing many problems. Stress and problems produce gray hair. If done correctly, it is a crown. If done wrong it is a curse.

Stress is part of doing things God’s way. Distress comes by doing them your way! Notice the mess David got into when he did it his way:

Read I Samuel 30 and look closely at I Samuel 30:6

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”

The way to handle stress or distress is to encourage yourself in the Lord your God! If you know you are doing what God wants you to do and are in fellowship with Him, let God give you the courage to keep on keeping on. Many times, God rewards his servants with a long life and much gray hair because of the stressful things that they have endured.

The Ruled Spirit

Proverbs 16:32 “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

One of the tangible results of good time management and of doing God’s will is that the servant of God “ruleth his spirit”. There is no substitute for a leader who can stay in control when others are losing their tempers! This is called self-control. However, a better way to be in control of self is by letting God control you. If you know that God is in control, there is no reason to lose your temper. Good time management not only manages your time but controls your personality and temperament. Remember it is not just what you do, but how you do it!

The Opportunity of Your Life

Proverbs 16:33 “The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.”

Things will happen. Chance comes upon all projects and into every life that is lived for God. Get God involved early (see Proverbs 16:1), often, and throughout the project and your life unto the end. When it is done, give God the glory and go on to the next project. It is important to finish strong, whatever the circumstances or problems. Let God do the disposing and when He is done, He will do the closing.

If you are looking for the will of God, Proverbs 16 is a good Bible chapter on understanding how to find it. It is a good place to start the analysis. I am convinced that God has a purpose for every individual on this planet. I am also convinced that the only way to find personal peace, happiness, and satisfaction is to find out what God wants you to do and then to attempt to do it. God not only reveals many things about Himself in the Bible, He uses the Bible to personally speak to an individual on what it is that they need to do with their life.

I hope this lesson on finding God’s will has been a help and blessing to you.
